Great project……I am looking forward to your results.
At this time I am time travelling with a SONY MAVICA 0.4 mp (floppy disc) camera from the 1990’s. Each floppy allows for 15 photos (there is no compensation for camera motion) and I have to shoot like using a film camera to get the best shot.
Thanks! 🙏 You can already see the results of this project… Wow, a Mavica! I still remember well when this camera was released! For my project, I used a 2GB memory card, which was hard to find. But a 1.44MB 3.5-inch floppy disc for this camera is truly a rarity! I would love to see your photos made with this camera
I’ve had the camera for about a year……picked it up at a charity store for $5……found some new, unused, original SONY floppies still with the vinyl wrapping on the box about 3 months after purchasing the camera $3 in a charity store, and then a new battery online for $15.
The camera functions like new and the photos are pretty fine with all due respect for the resolution.
I believe that this camera retailed for about $1000 USD WHEN NEW. FAIRLY LEADING EDGE FOR THE DAY.
Will post some photos for your enjoyment sometime in the future.
I will share my thoughts and the photos in an upcoming post 😉 There will be an eBook also as a free download for my subscribers. The SD card…? I was lucky my father had still one from his old camera
I've actually thought about doing something similar, but my 8GB SD card is so old & the write speed is so painfully slow... (though I guess, in reality, if you're not doing burst shots, a slow write speed doesn't really matter)
That’s right, my 2 GB SD card is also slooooow. Therefore I chose to photograph in JPG and as you indicate, if you do not use burst mode, the old SD card is fine. Slow down was the whole idea behind my project😉
You already answered the question I had while reading, you don't need 2Gb for 36 jpegs :) Good idea to fill up the space with a dummy file, I think I haven't used a tool like fsutil for at least a decade or so. Curious how this project goes!
I’m glad you like the idea. In fact, before I started this project I never heard of fsutil… ;-) But with this dummy file it’s game over after 36 clicks. I’ll share the results in an upcoming newsletter maybe with an exclusive e-book download for my subscribers.
This is quite a genius idea—using lower GB on a modern camera to create intentionality in digital work! Would have never thought of that myself but I love it!!! Can’t wait to see this project unfold
No burst mode and intentionally slowing down my photography was exactly the purpose of this project. Just like the feel of analog photography was for me. Okay, this is a smart one and you’re right 😉, shooting RAW files would make better use of your memory card. It’s certainly something to consider when you (or your friend, for whom you’re asking this 😆) give this project a try. But since I switched from Canon to Fujifilm, I mostly shoot only JPEGs, so RAW isn’t my first option anymore.

Nice to see the revival of film cameras!

Spkender idea. Will definitely bring back the The nostalgia when I used to shoot my Pentax in the '80s.
Such a good idea! I’m thinking of giving digital a try. Saved this to come back to once I’ve converted!
I too have this as one of my Monthly challenges.
Will actually be trying this
You should really give it a try. I’m already curious about the photos and your thoughts about this assignment.
I would love to hear your thoughts on how this goes, and how it actually compares to shooting on film! Where the heck do you get a 2GB card nowadays?

Love the idea.
It sure is 😉Just give it a try especially as you’re use to photograph with film.
